NOBLE COUNTY EMA: The Rome City Conservancy District is monitoring the Sylvan Lake water level and has issued a Level 3 Watch Event. This is a watch status.
So what does this mean to us? Sylvan Lake dam procedures require a Level 3 watch be implemented when the water level reaches 10’6” — this means closely monitoring of the structure.
Per Mick Newton, Noble County EMA Director “at 10.5’, the water is on the second weir and procedures require close monitoring of the structure. No further action would be needed unless the level exceeds 11 feet.”
Per David Abbott, Noble County Commissioner and President of Rome City Conservancy District, “An Event Level 3 is really nothing more than a watch alert. This is meant to alert all authorities including emergency agencies that the Rome City Conservancy District and it’s Engineering advisors are aware of the rising lake level and are monitoring the current situation. During an Event level 3 there is no immediate plans to open the tainter gate to release water downstream. At this point, our Engineering Firm does not anticipate reaching an Event Level 2.”
