There was a Town Hall Meeting with Rep. Ober & Sen. Glick Sat. Feb. 17 at the Kendallville Library. There is an article in the Kendallville News Sun Feb 18. West Lakes flooding was discussed. Dan Lash, from Eagle Island, was present at the meeting. Dan reported that Ober introduced a bill that is now in front of the State Senate regarding the flooding. There is flood control planning and language in the Maumee River Basin Commission. The bill takes that language and adds it to the St. Joe River Basin Commission which now is mainly concerned with water quality. Dan further reported that drainage in the county was a major discussion during the Town Hall. It has affected not just our lakes, but also farmers. Sen. Glick reiterated that “Nobody is going to give grant money. Nobody is going to assist West Lakes if they don’t have an organization there to receive that money, unless we have an execution that meets the guidelines.” She further stated, a state-authorized organization was a necessary step for West Lakes to receive federal or state funding.
